Physiotherapy is a clinical health science and profession that aims to diagnose and rehabilitate people with movement disorders by using evidence-based, natural methods, such as exercise, motivation, manual therapy, education and advocacy. Physiotherapy differs from other professions in that our emphasis is on the correction of movement dysfunction which can be the cause of problems such as lower back pain, sports injuries or work related musculoskeletal problems. Physiotherapy is not just about the treatment of symptoms, we are committed to interventions that importantly identify the cause of your symptoms. Once the cause is identified we can then prescribe an appropriate treatment/rehabilitation program, which may include a combination of hands on treatment such as mobilisation/manipulation, soft tissue mobilisation, specific rehabilitation and importantly a home exercise program.
Musculoskeletal screenings are used in elite sport and in some occupational environments to reduce injury risk and maximize performance. In a specialized process we will assess your musculoskeletal system in full detail including structure, alignment, movement patterns, strength and neuromotor control. From this information we will design, teach and implement a prehab program that will improve physical performance, reduce injury risk and promote well-being. “Be the best you can be.”
Remedial massage (or deep tissue massage) is the discipline of using massage for the specific benefits of sports and exercise participants. It is tailored to each individual’s needs in order to positively enhance their normal daily activities or their ability to perform sports.
It involves the management, mobilisation and rehabilitation of the soft tissues of the body e.g. muscles, ligaments and tendons. In other words, the structures of our body that allow movement.
- Improved circulation and lymphatic flow (important after competition or hard training)
- Increase or decrease in muscle tone (to redress imbalances and help with relaxation of tense muscles)
- Increase or decreased muscle length (helps improve flexibility and improve posture)
- Sports massage also helps to prevent injuries by predicting potential problem areas (e.g. areas where tension imbalances have begun to develop); effectively aiding recovery from injury phases through various stages of participation in sports and rehabilitation programs, and can also speed up the removal of metabolic wastes.
- Regardless of whether you exercise or play sport to keep fit, or if you compete from club to international levels, sports massage may be able to help you.
